BELLE Receives $1.1 Million Extension
Following the E-Learning Conference last week and the continued success and dedication of project partners, CANARIE has awarded BELLE a six
month extension worth $1.1 million. According to Douglas MacLeod, BELLE's Project Director, "The recent eLearning Workshop in Montreal
provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the achievements, teamwork and capabilities of the BELLE Project. We demonstrated multipoint
videoconferencing, applications sharing and a search of the new Alexandria repository before a live audience of over 200 people – and it
went flawlessly. Many thanks to Francesco Schiavon, Trevor Woods and Mark Zuberbuhler for participating in the demonstration by
videoconference and for their insightful comments about the project. I would also like to note that the Netera team of Stephen Bosch, Douglas
Bowman, Janelle Ring and Lisa Willemse all worked incredibly long and hard to ensure that the presentation was a success. There is no doubt in
my mind that all of this effort was a significant help in the approval of our extension."
Specific emphasis in phase two will surround knowledge management and intellectual property, components that will be assisted by a recent
partnership with OnDisc and RightsMarket; and satellite delivery to remote locations through the expertise offered by Telesat and Callisto.
Congratulations to all on work well done!!
