BELLE Bulletin No.19
For the week of Janurary 28, 2002
Metadata Workshops Lead to Robust Repository
With metadata training workshops completed for seven of the ten BELLE partners, the BELLE/CAREO repository has become a showcase for Canadian learning objects. Using ALOHA v0.2, indexers at partner sites have metatagged and uploaded several objects in a variety of study areas, from early childhood education to medicine. Have a look at http://careo.netera.ca
NAIT comes ALIVE
Over the past several months a number of people associated with this listserv contributed to a validation of online facilitation skills conducted by the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). Resulting from this effort is the launch of a new program ALIVE (Active Learning in Virtual Environments) Online that incorporates many of the skills identified. ALIVE is an outcomes-based certificate program for those interested in designing, developing, and delivering web-based courses. Details of the program can be found at www.nait.ab.ca/alive.
Project Extension and Research Update
Plans are afoot to extend the project with all current BELLE partners. Site leaders will be contacted in the near future to discuss their participation in this exciting new development. In addition, research on the education and institutional implications of the project are underway. Interviews with site representatives are underway and will continue over the upcoming weeks. Contact Janelle Ring at ring@netera.ca or (403) 220-2012.
